Facebook changes company name to Meta

The social media giant Facebook has changed its corporate name to Meta on 28 October as part of a major rebrand. The platforms owned by the parent company such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp will remain the same name as before. Only the parent company name has changed from “Facebook, Inc.” to “Meta”

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, “Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started”.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg thinks the existing brand could not represent everything that they’re doing today. Many people believe metaverse could be the future of the internet. The company also unveiled a blue infinity shape logo at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, on Thursday, replacing its thumbs-up “Like” logo. The company also said in the announcement that it will change its stock ticker from FB to MVRS, effective from December 1.
